fish hooks, thread, hand sprayed abaca
This piece represents the tie between my past and my present, my work, and the constructed world intertwined with the natural world. The metal consists of old fishhooks found on my families ranch, while the hand sprayed paper represents my current work in fibers. Each segment of paper holds the mould of a single leaf, which are in turn tied to the metal necklace, there are four strands connected to each of the fish hooks which in turn hold over 100 leaves, which represent four generations and over 100 years of my family’s work in south Texas.
